Nikolai Klotchkov, saxophone

A native of Moscow (Russia), classical saxophonist and emerging researcher, Nikolai Klotchkov believes that only an excellent musician can create a valid scientific description of music phenomenon. Through research of musicians’ physiology and music cognition, he aims to provide new insights about performing music and music as a phenomenon in general.

Before moving to the U.S., Nikolai studied saxophone with Aleksey Volkov at Ippolitov-Ivanov Institute. In May 2018 Nikolai graduated from Auburn University with BM - classical saxophone under Michael Pendowski, and BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. Also in 2018, Nikolai won the GCSS Concerto Competition performing Ibert’s Concertino da Camera.

After earning his MM in saxophone performance in 2021, Nikolai continues as MM in musicology and DMA student at Peabody Conservatory where he studied saxophone under Gary Louie and conducts scientific research in the Department of Performing Arts & Health.

Nikolai performs regularly both in the United States and Russia.
